FARE MAIVI

« Coming to Fare Maivi is like diving into a wild unexpected scenery and experience of Tahiti ». Moehau, Founder & Interior Designer of Eimeo Living.

The Soul:

Fare Maivi was built in 1962 by Moehau’s grandfather, Albert. A typical wooden house of that time, built on stilts and open out to a large veranda. The original building has remained the same, you could easily imagined being surrounded with all sorts of people, the neighbors, their families, some by-passers from the beach, people that happen to be around would gather together and throw a party over those verandas as naturally as saying « Ia Ora na ». Verandas were the living rooms of homes in the Tahiti « Belle époque » and today it’s still a great part of the charm! This time confusion is stressed by the dramatic astonishment in the sceneries. White sandy beaches and Turquoise lagoon are traded for beaches with black sand, shorebreaks and steep cliffs.

The Vibe:

Exotic enough to let yourself loose your way and get caught by surprise at the next turn. This location is already very unique standing on a small point in the middle of the legendary Matavai bay, where once upon a time Europe has met Polynesia. Offering different landscapes ranging from wide and fine sandy beach to intimate rocky creek and, for the bold ones, an interesting trail on the reef to the other side of the cliff. Exciting and wild adventures await guests who like to indulge fully in the moment. The wilderness of this area is even more felt, time to time, during the North swell season from November to January. When the ocean is roaring and pounding on the beach, and the shoal ,far out, usually unnoticed, is swelling to reveal monstrous breaking waves. Apart from this time period, the water is flat and open for invigorating swimming session in the bay. Fare Maivi is a perfect middle ground between a disruptive experience from the normal routine and expectations of tropical paradise but on the other hand, familiar places and clamour of city can be found again easily with the neighbor hotel Le Tahiti located at 5 minutes walk and Papeete, only at 10 minutes drive.

The Decor:

The little bungalow is lovely and cosy, easy to own and hard to leave. Upon entering the house, a large pouf, covered with a « tīfaifai », a floral patchwork tapestry, is the centerpiece of the vestibule which instantly sets the tone. In fact each room is arranged in a such way that you can relax and seat comfortably. The lobby is fitted out with a pouf and a traditional « Pomare » chair, opening out to the kitchen with 3 large high chairs, from both rooms you can access to the wide veranda furnished with benches on one side and a bali-style daybed on the other. Both bedrooms feature queen draped canopy beds giving a true seal to the whole house. Sliding glass doors of the master bedroom reveals a private terrace with a large outdoor bathtub in which we gladly picture ourselves. Another cozy corner is to be found in the front yard, a beautiful outdoor canopy bed is facing the bay and where stargazing could naturally replace TV shows.
